Effect of ultrasonic irradiation on γ-Fe2O3 formation by co-precipitation method with Fe3+ salt and alkaline solution

The effect of ultrasonic irradiation on direct maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) preparation by a co-precipitation method with Fe3+ salt (Fe(NO3)3) and an excess amount alkaline (KOH) solution without going through the conventional magnetite (Fe3O4) formation route was explored in comparison impeller stirring. procedure for obtaining iron oxide nanoparticles designed using sequential processes precipitation, decantation, drying thermal dehydration, or stirring done during precipitation process. γ-ferric oxyhydroxide (γ-FeOOH) partially formed addition to α-ferric (α-FeOOH) thermally dehydrated γ-Fe2O3 hematite (α-Fe2O3) ultrasonic-assisted KOH solution, whereas only α-FeOOH α-Fe2O3 were synthesized difference between products two methods explained Lamer model associated nucleation growth FeOOH. Magnetization increased as crystallite diameter decreased, which is estimated facilitate partial magnetic γ-Fe2O3. enhanced lower frequency due stronger shock wave induced cavitation effect.
